Well, I made it! They were very long flights, but finally we arrived. I have met many students in the program and we all get along great. Last night we were picked up at the airport by a big bus (we stacked the luggage on the top) and then drove to the Nairobi National Forest hostels....the low point, the power was out. SOOO we had to find small cabins in the dark with ALL our luggage and then try and get ready for bed. I need to give a personal thank-you to my boss, Jeff, who gave me the most useful going away gift, a flashlight! This came in handy. We were all bunked in a small room and this was a difficult task. A few people could hear lions roaring last night from the window. :) This morning we repacked upat 5:30am and went into downtown Nairobi to apply for residency (for one year), then we exchanged cash and now can go to the "cyber." Well I have to go... I am dirty and sooo tired (I probably only slept for a half hour last night) but we need to go to the Nakuru National Park for our orientation. The bus ride is about 3.5 hours. They told us by the end of our orintation we will be sick of seeing wildlife. hahaha I can't wait!
I miss you all. Hope everyone is well.

ReplyDeleteDear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure for you. Will you continue to stay in the small cabin? What are beds like there? Once you get settled, keep your eyes open for bags or other art objects. We may need them!
